4th of July and a project

It was great having family to visit for the 4th of July. We had a fun time at the Coppell parade this year. If you look at the gutters, you can tell we had a bit of rain over the holiday. It was WONDERFUL to help cool things off. (I don't know if it's been on any national news, but Coppell has been having a bit of a controversy/tragedy with its mayor. We're still waiting for them to figure out the whole story. Sad stuff for a great little town.)

We got lots of candy at the parade this year, Kaitlyn attracted a lot of handouts. Most of them were gum and other things she can't have, which was great for us! :)
Grandpa decided Kaitlyn needed a sand pile for the backyard, and Kaitlyn was quick to agree. She loved spending time out there! But if you look close at these pictures, you'll notice she does NOT like to get dirty.
While my family was visiting they did a LOT of yard work. It was so nice of them! I couldn't believe how much they did in just a few days. In the above pictures of the sand pile, notice the beautiful groundcover taking over the garden. Then look below and notice the nice clean dirt. (ha ha). Actually, the 'groundcover' were individual little tree starts from our large tree in the backyard. My dad spent a lot of time pulling each of those little trees out, as well as several larger ones.
He also trimmed back the grasses, bushes, and palm trees. And pulled out a few ugly bushes. It looks great!!

Finally, my parents put in this great vegetable garden. I had started putting it together when we first moved in, then let it sit on the patio for a few months.... My dad got another set to make it larger and put it together, killing the lawn and putting down weed cloth, then filling it with dirt. It's so nice to have! I can't wait to have some fresh vegetables this fall (hope I can keep it alive, so far so good).
My dad also put up a few more shelves for us in our garage, and set up some hook systems on the walls for us. It looks so much more organized now. My mom sealed some of the cracked grout in our bathrooms for us, and filled up our freezer with some great food to use down the road... more on that in a post coming Thursday. :)

Thanks to Mom, Dad, and Lisa for all your hard work on your vacation!!!

Fun pictures - they are hard workers !!! I loved when they came through here and trimmed my big tree out back. Just in time for the garbage truck - YAY !!

Funny that she doesn't like to get dirty - even with sand... Cute.

Heard about the Coppell mayor & daughter -- VERY SAD - Coppell is where our Texas office is located!!!

It was so cute that she would let us bury her foot, but it would pop up as soon as it was burried. She couldn't bury our feet because the shovels had sand on them so she didn't want to touch them. All it took to clean off though, was to walk in the grass, so it isn't too rough.

It is so great to see your yard with a little more finese. It looks wonderful. Great to have gardeners in the family. Great pictures
